Red Clay Dirt Pitch Reel Fundraiser A Project of Shorts

DNA is Irrefutable, Legacy is Imminent - Past is Prologue

"In this wise, witty and unflinchingly realistic story, Monda Raquel Webb peels away the slick veneer of our money and celebrity-obsessed popular culture to reveal a more complex America. She explores the richly varied terrain of American experience and exposes the raw legacy of chattel slavery. Emebdded in her narrative is a bibilical allusion that call us to a more deeply spiritual and moral national life - one in which human dignity carries a higher value than the maintenance of wealth and privilge." -- Deborah M Norman, Writer and Historian

Logline: A Broken Northern Woman Travels South and Back in Time, Faces off Against the KKK, and Regains her Sense of Self-Worth

Synopsis

Red Clay Dirt is a rural homecoming. Rosa, a prodigal daughter, doesn't realize that all of her strength, which lays dormant with the admission of her southern heritage, is passed down from her great grandmother Sirvillar Robinson, and ultimately makes her who she is. In NY, an insecure, unbalanced Rosa struggles to appear high profile in an unfriendly job. She is isolated and exhausted by trying to keep up with the proverbial Jones'. Rosa embraces her DNA and accepts her destiny after she travels through time and becomes whole under an oak tree on her great-grandmother's small farm in Dawson, GA. She embodies the spirit of her Aunt Rosa Lee, whose bravery helps save the family from the Ku Klux Klan in 1939.

Red Clay Dirt is a film about universal truths, discoverable at the root cause. Rosa trips over a root to go back in time and learns that her roots run deep. Back in the present, equipped to attack her fears and insecurities, Rosa is made whole by absorbing the strength of her family history at the root of an old oak tree.

This is a film about choices. It begs the question of the trajectory our lives would take if we look at things for what they are as opposed to what we believe they are. In that sense, reality is reality and not reality based on our beliefs. Red Clay Dirt discovers healing by recognizing old wounds and emotional scar tissue, sealing them with resolution, forgiveness and moving forward. In this way, a true healing occurs with an appreciation of the past, lessons learned, blessings earned and the organic release of negative residuals.

Starving Artist - Myth or Fact

There used to be a time when notable prolific work was created by "starving artists". Thanks to the universal YOU, we are eternally grateful for any dollar amount you contribute towards this filmraiser. As a creator, I would not be whole if I couldn't birth the myriad of ideas that pester me daily. It's because of you, I can refuse to accept the phrase "starving artist". It's because of you that I've published four books and sold over 3,000 copies.

It's because of you and my film village that my first short film Zoo (Volkerschau) won 8 National and 3 International awards. Thank you!

It's all truly, because of you, and I am eternally grateful -- Filmmaker -- Monda Raquel Webb
